Ventura & Scultura

With the exhibition Ventura & Scultura, DIE GALERIE invites to a dialogue between the latest works of the artist Andrea Ventura, born in Milan in 1968, and those of some of the leading sculptors of the gallery. Berlin-based artist Andrea Ventura first became known to the public as a brilliant illustrator. After his portraits for the New York Times, The New Yorker, or Rolling Stone have won several important awards, we now encounter his creations also in German publications such as Weltkunst or AD Magazine.
Yet Andrea Ventura was never just an illustrator, but rather a painter whose work found its influence in the art of the Italian Movimento del Novecento or Realismo Magico. His paintings are characterized by strong drop shadows, his compositions often appear almost photographic. His motifs are often inspired by classical art history – interiors, portraits, nudes, architectural views – while simultaneously revealing a deep fascination with the ordinary. For Ventura, the interiors constitute an intimate approach to painting through a kind of subconscious: „They express a very specific feeling, they are a way to reflect my life, which to some extent becomes endless through these representations. They allow me to visualise unlived realities, as possibilities of endless lives, and thus multiply my own life.“ Andrea Ventura‘s intimate paintings are joined in our exhibition by contemporary sculptural works, such as Beate Debus‘ dancing human figures, Guy Ferrer‘s expressive figurines, Dietrich Klinge‘s abstract-figurative imagery as well as Igor Mitoraj‘s classically-antique looking bodies.
