Einführung:

Das Werk ist Teil einer 12-teilligen Serie hochformatiger Leinwände, auf die im oberen Bildbereich eine kreisrunde Radierung collagiert ist. Sie wirkt wie ein Schlüsselloch und öffnet den Blick nach draußen auf eine Meereslandschaft, auf die der Bildtitel Niveau d’eau Bezug nimmt. Die Malerei in schwarz-weiß nimmt die Wellenbewegung auf der Radierung auf und ist in einen für Alechinsky typischen gemalten Rahmen gesetzt.

Niveau d’eau I, das erste Werk dieser Serie, eine bewegte Malerei ausschließlich in Schwarz, befindet sich im Musée Réattu in Arles.



The work is one of a 12-part series of portrait-format canvases with a collage of circular etchings in the upper part of the picture. It resembles a keyhole and opens the view out to a seascape, which the title Niveau d’eau refers to. The painting in black and white takes up the wave movement on the etching and is set in a painted frame characteristic of Alechinsky.

Niveau d’eau I, the first work in this series, a lively painting exclusively in black, is housed in the Musée Réattu in Arles.
