Benvenuta, Italia!

Benvenuta Italia! – Welcome Italy! is an enthusiastic invitation to an exciting fifth decade for the gallery, with its inaugural exhibition focusing on Italy and many exceptional talents, from Transavanguardia and Pop Art to New Figuration and contemporary abstraction, promising a multifaceted and nuanced view of the Italian art scene.

Influenced by Surrealism, Pop Art, and, in his material-based paintings, also by Arte Povera, Enrico Baj is one of the most important protagonists of 20th-century Italian art. In addition to paintings and drawings, his colorful masks, composed of various objects and materials, are particularly worth discovering at THE GALLERY. We present Sandro Chia, a member of the Transavanguardia group, with unusually minimalist yet elaborate mosaics. Valerio Adami, the master of Italian Pop Art, and the author and painter Emilio Tadini will be featured with large-format paintings. The unique theater director, actor, and Nobel laureate Dario Fo only presented himself as a painter later in life, though he remained one throughout his career. Alongside the art historical heavyweight Marino Marini, Carlo Manini and Riccardo Cordero bring together two sculptors whose minimalism is related, yet their choice of materials is strikingly different. Stone on the one hand and metal on the other form the basis for these classically beautiful sculptures, rendered with a simplicity that speaks volumes. You can also look forward to works by Piero Dorazio, Mimmo Paladino, Mario Schifano, and others.
