BEATE DEBUS und ANDREAS GRUNERT – Von Schattentänzern und Schattengießern

With the exhibition Beate Debus and Andreas Grunert – Of Shadow Dancers and Shadow Casters, DIE GALERIE is dedicating itself to two artists who seek to explore the mystery of “humanity” in different ways in their work. As a sculptor, Beate Debus (*1957) does this formally. She devotes herself entirely to the anthropomorphic figure in her work, examining its movement in space using her own body and engaging intensively with the theme of dance. The result is abstract forms that nevertheless appear familiar and human. Humans also play a central role in the work of Andreas Grunert (born 1947), but the painter approaches the theme more in terms of content. His reduced visual language only appears easy to decipher at first glance. In fact, however, he manages to leave all interpretations of his recurring pictorial elements open. Body and mind, materiality and spirituality, sculpture and painting come together in this exhibition. For the first time, DIE GALERIE is showing both artists in parallel with around 40 works.
