96 A 10 P - Alain Clément
Einführung:
Clément’s intensively colorful, high-contrast painting entitled 96 A 10 P, applied to the canvas in wide brushstrokes of violently gestural movement, is, as was once again made obvious by the juxtaposition, characterized by the intensive light and lucid color contrasts of the southern hemisphere, and, likewise, avoids melancholy and fragmentary narrative detours. The powerful, emotional gesture of the painting — with its free and expansive movement, bands and widths, stripes or curves, energetic grids or overpainting, ribbons or interlacing — doesn’t lose itself in its unrestrained gesticulation but, for all the dynamics that exude beyond the prescribed pictorial frames, remains controlled on a visual level.
In all his painterly work, Clément seeks to meld color and light together into an indissoluble entity in which, „with luminous transparency“, complex, enigmatic environments accrue in the same manner as in his overlapping, intensely colored monochrome sculptures, which, just like his painting, are characterized by certain monumentality.
